This explains what SideQuest collects when you take the quiz, why we collect it, and who else is involved. It covers SideQuest and nothing else.
Who we are
SideQuest is operated by [LEGAL ENTITY NAME], registered at [REGISTERED ADDRESS]. We are the data controller for the personal data described here. You can reach us at [CONTACT EMAIL].
What we collect
You can take the quiz without an account. When you do, we store the answers you give:
- the conference and the days you are attending
- how you are attending — full pass, part of the week, or side events only
- your role, your goals for the week, and the topics you care about
- your preferred pace and energy
- any people, companies or speakers you name as worth meeting
If you create an account we also store your email address and authentication records so you can sign back in and recover your schedule. If you buy access we store a record that your purchase unlocked a particular conference.
Our event catalogue is built from publicly listed conference and side-event information. It can include the names and public roles of speakers and other public figures, which is personal data about those individuals rather than about you.
Why we use it, and our lawful basis
We use your quiz answers to build and refine your schedule — that is the service you asked for, so the basis is performance of a contract. We use your email to authenticate you and to send service messages about your account or purchase, on the same basis.
We keep limited technical logs to operate and secure the service, on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping it working and free from abuse.
Automated processing by an AI model
Your schedule is generated by a large language model. To do that we send your quiz answers, together with the candidate events from our catalogue, to our AI provider [AI PROVIDER NAME]. If you use the assistant to change your schedule, your messages are sent the same way.
Do not put anything into the quiz or the assistant that you would not want processed this way — in particular, avoid sensitive personal details about yourself or about anyone you name.
These outputs are suggestions. They do not have legal or similarly significant effects, and a human — you — decides what to accept.
Cookies
We use only cookies the service needs to function. An anonymous plan is tied to a cookie named sq_curation so your schedule survives a page reload before you have an account; it is set server-side and cannot be read by scripts in your browser. Signing in sets a session cookie. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
Payments
Purchases are handled by Polar, which acts as merchant of record and is the seller of record for your transaction. Your card details go to Polar and its payment processors — we never receive or store them. We receive confirmation that a purchase succeeded so we can unlock your conference. Polar processes your data under its own privacy policy.
Who else sees your data
We share personal data only with the providers needed to run the service:
- [AI PROVIDER NAME] — generating and editing your schedule
- Polar — payments, as merchant of record
- [HOSTING PROVIDER] — hosting and database
- [EMAIL PROVIDER] — authentication and service email
We do not sell personal data. If any of these providers processes data outside your region, that transfer relies on [TRANSFER MECHANISM].
How long we keep it
Anonymous quiz drafts are kept for [RETENTION PERIOD] and then deleted. Account data is kept while your account exists, and for [RETENTION PERIOD] afterwards. Records we need for tax or accounting are kept for as long as the law requires.
Your rights
If you are in the UK, EU or EEA you can ask us for a copy of your data, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to our use of it, or receive it in a portable form. Ask at [CONTACT EMAIL] and we will respond within one month.
If you named someone as a person worth meeting and they ask us to remove that reference, we will. If you think we have handled your data badly you can complain to your local supervisory authority.
